Your firm’s website and open roles: why the search happens before the call
Nearly half of Indian small businesses are still fully offline — and most buyers have made up their minds before they ever contact you. A real web address is no longer optional.
Ask a candidate to look you up, or a client to check you out, and the first thing they do is search your firm’s name. If nothing comes up — or only a half-finished profile on someone else’s platform — you have lost a little trust before the first conversation. The data says this is where a lot of small firms quietly fall down.
Half the market is still invisible
A 2025 survey of 7,835 MSMEs by the India SME Forum found 46% still operate fully offline, and among those that had adopted digital tools, most reported real customer growth. The classic KPMG-Google study put the older baseline starkly — around two-thirds of Indian small businesses had no web presence at all. Being findable is still a genuine differentiator, not table stakes everyone has cleared.
The decision happens before you are contacted
It matters more than it used to because buyers decide early. 6sense’s research on B2B buying found the large majority of the buying process happens before a seller is ever contacted, and most buyers have a preferred vendor in mind before they talk to sales. By the time someone reaches out, your website has already done most of the convincing — or lost it.
What your page needs — and nothing more
Not a ten-page site. Who you are, your services in plain words, your open roles, and a way to sign in or get in touch. That is a complete, credible page for a service firm, and one you can write in an afternoon.
Post jobs on your own site, and keep it current
When you are hiring, the openings should live on your page, at your address — not only behind a per-posting fee on a job portal. And the reason most firm sites go stale is that updating them is a chore; a page that reads from the system your firm runs on cannot drift. See how your page works.
The takeaway
Nearly half of Indian MSMEs are still fully offline, while most buyers decide before they ever contact you. A real, current web address with your services and open roles is doing the convincing while you sleep — or it would be, if you had one.
